2. Information We Collect

Information you provide. We may collect information that you provide directly, including your email address, support messages, account identifiers where applicable, saved locations, alert preferences, trip or region selections, and other information you choose to submit through the app or website.

Location and alert data. If you grant permission, Aurora Hunt may process precise GPS location data and approximate location data to deliver local aurora forecasts, cloud-aware recommendations, saved places, and smart alert functionality. You can revoke location permissions through your device settings at any time.

Subscription and transaction data. If you purchase a subscription or lifetime access, we may receive limited purchase and entitlement information from app store providers or subscription management partners, such as product identifier, renewal status, country, price tier, and anonymous purchase token. We do not store your full payment card details.

Optional AI feature data. If Aurora AI or similar optional features are enabled, we may process prompts, preferences, and structured forecast context needed to generate summaries, explanations, or interpretations. These features may use OpenAI and Google Gemini models to help interpret aurora, cloud, and timing data in a more understandable way. We ask that you do not submit sensitive personal information or third-party personal information unless you are legally permitted to do so.

Automatically collected data. We may collect technical and usage data such as IP address, device model, operating system, app version, language, time zone, crash logs, performance data, referral information, pages viewed, feature usage, cookie or local storage preferences, and push-notification identifiers such as a Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) registration token when notifications are enabled.

3. How We Use Information

We use personal information to operate Aurora Hunt, deliver forecasts and alerts, personalize your experience, maintain saved places and preferences, process subscriptions, respond to support requests, improve reliability and product quality, prevent fraud or abuse, meet legal obligations, and communicate important service updates.

Forecasts and app experiences may rely on third-party environmental and space-weather sources, including NOAA / NWS Space Weather Prediction Center data and weather data delivered by the Norwegian Meteorological Institute / Yr, together with our own processing and ranking logic.

We do not sell personal information for money, and we do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own independent marketing or advertising use. We do not use your data to train public AI models. Where AI providers are used for optional in-product summaries or interpretations, they process data only to provide that feature under contractual restrictions.

4. Legal Bases

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on one or more of the following: performance of a contract, legitimate interests such as service security and improvement, compliance with legal obligations, and consent where consent is required, including for certain permissions or non-essential cookies.

5. Sharing and Service Providers

We use carefully selected processors and infrastructure providers only to operate Aurora Hunt. This may include Google Firebase Cloud Messaging for push notification delivery, app store or billing providers to validate purchases and entitlements, and infrastructure providers needed to host and secure the service.

If optional AI features are enabled, structured forecast inputs and user prompts may be sent to OpenAI and/or Google Gemini solely to generate the requested AI result. We do not authorize these providers to use Aurora Hunt user content for their own advertising purposes. We may also disclose information where required by law, court order, or to protect our rights, users, and service integrity.

6. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Aurora Hunt uses cookies, local storage, and similar technologies for essential preferences and, where enabled, measurement or service improvement. Our Cookie Policy explains these tools in more detail.

7. International Transfers

Your information may be processed in countries outside your place of residence. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as contractual protections and vendor commitments consistent with applicable privacy law.

8. Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including support, subscription validation, security, legal compliance, dispute resolution, and product operations. Retention periods may differ depending on the type of data and your use of the service.

Precise geolocation data may be treated as sensitive personal information under some U.S. laws and is used only to deliver the services you request, such as local aurora alerts and location-aware forecasts.

10. Children's Privacy

Aurora Hunt is intended for users aged 14 and older. We do not knowingly allow children under 14 to use the service.

If you are under the age at which you can lawfully consent to online information society services in your country, certain consent-based processing may require authorization from a parent or legal guardian. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us inappropriately, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
