An exceptional event would need a useful northern view with little light or cloud. Mountains, buildings and urban glow can obstruct or imitate faint low colour.

Aurora forecast questions and answers

Should I expect an aurora in Taiwan tonight?
Aurora is exceptionally uncommon in Taiwan. A global storm alert does not create a normal local viewing opportunity. Check reliable current observations and local conditions, while keeping expectations modest and avoiding a long journey based only on Kp.
What do Keelung, Taipei and New Taipei show?
They are northern Taiwan forecast references with different coastal, basin and urban settings. Their weather can differ. The cards do not cover the entire island or rank locations as aurora destinations.
Can a very high Kp guarantee a Taiwanese sighting?
No. Kp measures planetary disturbance, not local visibility. The auroral oval and magnetic latitude matter, and cloud, mountains and city lights can still prevent a view. A numerical range must not be read as a sighting promise.
How should I assess a red or pink sky image from Taiwan?
Look for a verifiable location, time, direction and independent observations. Urban light on cloud, ordinary sky phenomena and image processing can create striking colour. One saturated picture does not establish that aurora was visible locally.
Is it worth going to an exposed northern coast after an alert?
Not on the alert alone. Check reliable evidence and CWA weather first, including coastal warnings. Use a safe permitted nearby viewpoint if conditions merit a look; do not enter closed trails or approach rough seas for an uncertain display.
